Catalog description

The course has two major components. First, the course includes field research and laboratory exercises that illustrate several basic ecological concepts detailed in BIOL 414. Approaches covered include quantitative sampling methods for terrestrial and aquatic systems, design of ecology experiments, and data analysis and interpretation. Second, the course includes a capstone project, where students work with instructors to design an experiment within a topic, conduct the experiment, analyze the data, and communicate the findings in multiple forms. In combination, this activity includes the full suite of steps scientists use to carry out ecological research. Prerequisite: Concurrent or prior enrollment in BIOL 414 and BIOL 370. On rare occasions, exceptions may be made by permission of the instructor. Satisfies: Lab and Field Experiences (LFE)
