Catalog description

This course examines the development of art in the United States since the turn of the 20th century with an emphasis on major artists and artistic movements considered within relevant historical, social, cultural, economic, political, and theoretical contexts. Artists whose work may be addressed include Georgia O’Keeffe, Isamu Noguchi, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Judy Chicago, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Kara Walker. This course is offered at the 300 and 500 levels with additional work required at the 500 level. Not open to students with credit in HA 574. (Same as HA 374.) Prerequisite: HA 100, HA 151, or the equivalent, or consent of instructor.
