Catalog description

This course introduces students to the concepts and methods of population- based, community health nursing practice. Emphasis will be on the promotion of community health with a focus on community health nursing roles, biostatistics, and epidemiological measures of the health status of populations. This course provides a direct care clinical experience that provides an opportunity to meet with a healthcare member of the community to identify gaps in care, present assessment findings and implement a quality improvement strategy. The student will learn to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene and evaluate the health status of vulnerable populations. Health promotion and disease prevention at the community level is explored from a holistic perspective.
