Food in World History

Catalog description

This course examines the important role that food has played in human history from the Neolithic Revolution to the present. The course analyzes the ways in which historical events and cultural movements (e.g., wars, revolutions, religious conflicts, industrialization, exploration and colonization) have affected the human diet. The course also studies the manner in which dietary constraints and the need or desire for certain foods have, in turn, influenced world history. Prerequisite(s): ENG1020 or ENG1024 or English placement. Offered at Providence 3 Semester Credits
