Catalog description

Examining the types of exceptionalities in children, including those with pervasive cognitive delays, specific learning disabilities, physical impairments, emotional disturbances, and other health impairments, is the focus of this course. This course covers the legal responsibilities, support systems, and instructional strategies necessary to provide effective instruction for learners in Special Education, including understanding the IEP process and awareness of students with Section 504 accommodation plans. This understanding includes the self-contained environment and inclusive classroom (co-teaching). This course is designed to equip candidates to respond to the breadth of learners with special education needs within the public school system. Clinical experience is required.
