This course explores the security challenges and solutions associated with modern operating systems and enterprise-level systems. Students will learn how to harden systems against attacks, focusing on access control, authentication, patch management, and system monitoring. The course covers both traditional systems security concepts, like securing Linux and Windows environments, as well as emerging topics such as container security and cloud security. This course emphasizes a proactive approach to securing systems, including the use of automation in patching, configuration management, and vulnerability scanning. Students will also explore incident response from a systems perspective, learning how to detect, contain, and recover from security breaches. Case studies and real-world examples will illustrate how system vulnerabilities can lead to broader organizational risks.
