This course provides an in-depth study of the principles and practices used to protect data and resources across networked environments. Instruction covers key concepts such as firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and encryption. Students will learn to design, implement, and manage secure network architectures, as well as how to monitor network traffic for anomalies that might indicate attacks. The course also emphasizes secure network protocols, wireless security, and defense against common threats like Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, man-in-the-middle attacks, and network sniffing. Hands-on labs and simulations will allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios, using tools like Wireshark and Snort to detect and respond to network-based threats. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to protect an organization's network infrastructure from a wide range of cyber threats. They will be equipped with both the theoretical understanding and the practical skills needed to defend against attacks and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of network communications.
