Catalog description

An examination of the origins and development of film criticism and theory that includes both an analysis of selected motion pictures and the application of theoretical principles. Students learn about various schools of analysis including genre, auteur, feminist, Marxist, and Christian. Emphasis will focus on moving beyond the traditionally myopic view of first/second-world cinema, towards a holistic view that includes third/fourth-world cinema as well. Final output includes conducting seminars and writing critical essays.
