Catalog description
Provides instruction on the interrelationships of the structure and function of each body system. Includes basic chemistry, cell structure, cell physiology, metabolism, tissues, and integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. Note: This is the first course in a two-course sequence. Lecture: 3.0 credits (45 contact hours); Laboratory: 1.0 credit (30 contact hours).

If the student's major requires Medical Terminology, Psychology, Introductory Biology or Chemistry, those courses should be taken BEFORE Bio 137. Prior to enrolling in Human Anatomy and Physiology, Bio 137, A student should demonstrate college readiness in math, reading, and English. The Biology Department recommends that a student have successfully completed (with a grade of C or better) a biology or chemistry course in the last 5 years before taking Bio 137. 2.) ARepeat Policy: After a student has completed Bio 137 twice, the division chair in consultation with the instructor may refuse to approve the third registration until the student has successfully completed Bio 112, Bio 130, Bio 132 or Bio 135. 3.) "1.) Must take with lab component BIO137 59L1. 2.) ADVISING NOTE PLEASE READ THIS!! If the student's major requires Medical Terminology, Psychology, Introductory Biology or Chemistry, those courses should be taken BEFORE Bio 137. Prior to enrolling in Human Anatomy and Physiology, Bio 137, A student should demonstrate college readiness in math, reading, and English. The Biology Department recommends that a student have successfully completed (with a grade of C or better) a biology or chemistry course in the last 5 years before taking Bio 137. 2.) ARepeat Policy: After a student has completed Bio 137 twice, the division chair in consultation with the instructor may refuse to approve the third registration until the student has successfully completed Bio 112, Bio 130, Bio 132 or Bio 135. 3.) Hybrid Course - This section has both an in person and online component. Students enrolling in this section must have reliable access to a computer with Internet capabilities and a video camera. Students must log onto http://elearning.kctcs.edu/ for instructions on accessing their course site.
