A theoretical and practical overview of the growing field of popular writing. Students will analyze a broad range of genres -- including reviews, commentaries, profiles, blogs and ads -- from a broad range of publications, including newspapers, magazines and the Web, with the goal of acquiring a critical understanding of the rhetorical aims and practices of popular writing.
