Sociology of Nonprofit Organizations

Catalog description

Focusing primarily on the United States, this course examines the historical and theoretical frameworks that have shaped today's nonprofit organizations. Students will gain a practical understanding of the various types of nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in order to fully grasp their significance as drivers of social change. Special focus will be given to the meaning of civil society, philanthropy as a social construct, stakeholders, professionalization, and the opportunities and challenges facing NPOs in an increasingly interconnected world.
