Catalog description

In this course, students will explore the appearance of the major world religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism) as well as religious themes (such as redemption or the afterlife) in the medium of film. Students will learn to critique cinematic representations and misrepresentations of religion and to analyze their impact on viewers, as well as to consider how films may provide rituals and other experiences that serve a religious function.
