Catalog description
This course serves future social studies teachers. It investigates the importance of civic engagement for individuals and communities, long-term trends in civic behaviors, and the implications of those trends. It explores traditional ways of preparing young people to be active and informed participants in civic and political life, as well as institutional, structural and political barriers to doing so. New, promising approaches to civic learning geared toward historically marginalized populations are also examined.
