This course examines urban spaces and encourages students to think critically about place through the lens of several different academic disciplines. Topics include the importance of places cultivating feelings of community attachment and why it matters; designing places that promote informal social interactions and connectivity; celebrating cultural identities and confronting complicated histories; implications of transportation alternatives; creating places that are safe without being sterile; and common mistakes of the modern era.
