This course is a survey of the evolution of the phenomenon of terrorism and an analysis of its causes, strategies and forms. This course also discusses the consequences of terrorism in terms of government responses to terrorist threats (homeland security and counter-terrorism) and the economic and political costs of such responses. An interdisciplinary approach linking history, sociology, criminology and political science is used to make sense of this multifaceted phenomenon.
