Catalog description
This course provides an analysis of advertising's roles in U.S. society from the late nineteenth century through the present. The course uses advertisements and other primary sources to consider how the advertising industry has shaped and reflected social norms, including ideas about gender, race, class, religion, sexuality and age. It will also consider the influence of advertising on art, entertainment and politics.
