Creating the United States Constitution

Catalog description

This course examines the intellectual and political negotiations that produced the United States Constitution. It explores the contemporary understandings of the pressing political crisis that confronted the U.S. in the period immediately following the Revolution and that demanded the prompt revision of the continental government. The bulk of the semester is devoted to a simulation of the Philadelphia Convention of 1787, utilizing an innovative pedagogy known as Reacting to the Past.
