Catalog description
This course will take a genre-based or formalist approach to understanding and analyzing literature by examining multiple texts that belong to a genre, subgenre and/or other category of literary and/or artistic creation. This course will introduce students to methods for studying literature through analysis focused on the forms and conventions of the selected texts. The organizing principle of this course will be the analysis of literary form, but the course will also engage with the thematic and cultural aspects of the literature studied. This is a writing-infused course. Specific topics will vary. This course may be used for general education credit.
