This course examines modern and contemporary art movements in Africa and the African diaspora. Artists, art schools, exhibition strategies and developments in painting, sculpture, photography, video and film illustrate the richness of artistic productions and display, as well as the tensions and triumphs of contemporary Africa and its diaspora. Course work centers on a substantial research paper based on primary source material.
