Catalog description

This course provides an overview of short Arabic literary texts, ranging from the animal fables translated by Ibn al-Muqaffa' in the 8th century to Arabic short stories from the 20th century. Students will read a number of stories in English as well as a selection of texts in classical and modern standard Arabic by some of the most prominent Arabic-writing authors of the last thirteen centuries. Advanced topics in grammar will be addressed as the need arises.
