Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to provide music performance majors with information in four areas of instrumental pedagogy: pedagogy, pedagogy development, studio development, and professional development. Students will follow a course of study that will aid them in their performance and teaching courses. Teaching practices and materials will be discussed in the pedagogy portion of the course. The studio development portion of the course will cover the history and development of individual instruments through examination and creating program notes for performances, and each of these will be viewed in terms of world and music history. The professional development section will examine professional/creative writing, formatting of documents used for career advancement, and how to prepare for a job/audition interview.
