Catalog description
Students will explore the art, architecture, and visual culture of Islamic cultures from across the globe. Major attention will be given to the social, political, economic, and spiritual contexts of major monuments and arts production. Topics will include the influence of attitudes towards spirituality, politics, gender, and transculturation. Students will practice visual analysis and gain a basic understanding of the methods and aims of art historical study. (Writing Intensive Course)
