Catalog description

Students will explore the art, architecture, and archaeology of the Mediterranean, including the Cyclades, Minoan Crete, mainland Greece, Etruria, and Rome. Major attention will be given to the social, political, economic, and spiritual contexts of major monuments and arts production. Topics will include the influence of attitudes towards life, death, language, spirituality, gender, and cultural identity on the art of the period. Students will practice visual analysis and gain a basic understanding of the methods and aims of art historical study. (Writing Intensive Course)
