PREREQUISITES: SPED 102 - Introduction to Inclusive Teaching and Learning, EDUC 121 - Child & Adolescent Development, EDUC 230 - The Exceptional Child and SPED 210 - Collaborative Relationships in Special Education PRE/COREQUISITES: COREQUISITES: DESCRIPTION: This course initially focuses on the physical classroom environment and behavioral structures to maximize the learning opportunity for all children within the school environment. It then seeks to enhance the students understanding of successful disciplinary techniques needed to work with diverse populations. This course includes an intense study of behavior management for students with exceptional needs. Emphasis is on applied behavior analysis, record keeping of student performance data, task analysis, writing behavior plans, and ethical issues in behavior modification including collaboration with families and other professionals. This course may be taught in face-to-face, blended, virtual, and Learn Anywhere formats. Department Chair approval required. Must be taken at home campus. OBSERVATIONAL FIELD EXPERIENCE STATEMENT: A 20-hour (minimum) in-person observational field experience is required for successful completion of this course.
