SMDI 130
Electrical Systems for Smart Manufacturing
Ivy Tech Community College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Prerequisite: SMDI 111. This course will continue the study of electrical systems through the use of electrical laws and principles pertaining to DC and AC circuits. In addition, students will program, troubleshoot, and learn to communicate with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). The introduction to various electric motors, AC and DC, will be explored as well as analyzing the performance of these motors. The systems utilized can be found in many industrial, commercial, and residential applications, and the exposure to these industrial components will prepare students for future careers. While working on these systems, safety will be emphasized as it is on a daily basis in real-world environments. Students will complete hands-on labs, virtual simulations, projects, and critical thinking assignments to help prepare for SACA C-201 Certified Industry 4.0 Electrical Systems 1 and SACA C-203 Certified Industry 4.0 Variable Frequency Drive Systems 1 certification exam.
