PREREQUISITES: HSPS 122 Hazmat Operations. PRE/COREQUISITES: COREQUISITES: CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Fire Fighter I is the introductory course for those students who are seeking certification as a firefighter. This course will introduce the student to NFPA 1010 and NFPA1500, 2024 Edition, Professional Qualifications for Firefighters, which serves as the standard of measurement for all firefighters in North America. The course will introduce the student to fire service terminology, history and basic firefighting skills needed to complete all requirements designated by the Department of Homeland Security for the Fire Fighter 1 state certification. Students in this course will have the opportunity to take both the practical skills and written test for the IDHS Firefighter1. The course does not guarantee the passing of the certification test, but prepares the student for the test.
