PREREQUISITES: HIMT 101 Introduction to Health Information Technology, HIMT 102 Health Data Content and Structure, and INFM 109 Informatics Fundamentals COREQUISITIES: HIMT 101 Introduction to Health Information Technology, HIMT 102 Health Data Content and Structure, and INFM 109 Informatics Fundamentals CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This course introduces concepts of health information systems such as database design and management, data warehousing, data mining, interoperability for health information exchanges, health information system acquisition and life cycle, health information registries and indices, EHRs, PHRs, information governance, and data stewardship. Students will study the evolution of health information systems including the transition from paper records to electronic records, HIPAA, HITECH, ARRA, and meaningful use. Students will also gain experience utilizing an electronic health record software.
