PREREQUISITES: EDUC 101 - Introduction to Teaching and Learning or SPED 102 - Introduction to Inclusive Teaching and Learning and EDUC 121 - Child and Adolescent Development PRE/COREQUISITES: COREQUISITES: DESCRIPTION: Provides an introduction to teaching the exceptional child. Includes theories and practices for promoting optimal developmental growth for all learners. Develops inclusive teaching techniques. Explores public policy, inclusion, early intervention, and laws related to special education. Explores categories of special needs, including dyslexia and other reading difficulties, and provides opportunities to explore school-based services for children with exceptional needs. This course may be taught in face-to-face, blended, virtual, and Learn Anywhere formats. Department Chair approval required. Must be taken at home campus. OBSERVATIONAL FIELD EXPERIENCE STATEMENT: A 10-hour (minimum) in-person observational field experience is required for successful completion of this course.
