Catalog description
PREREQUISITES: CRIM 101 Introduction to Criminal Justice Systems. CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A theoretical and practical survey of criminal law in the United States. This includes examining conduct that constitutes crimes and the punishments deemed appropriate for such acts. Emphasis is placed on the criminal law as it is applied and interpreted both federally, through the U.S. Supreme Court, and in the state of Indiana through the Indiana Code and state court decisions. Course topics include the American criminal justice system, criminal liability, the elements of specific crimes, constitutional limits, the Indiana Code (with specific emphasis on the penal code), criminal defenses, victims, punishments and sentencing.
