Classical Guitar IV

Catalog description
This is a course emphasizing advanced classical guitar techniques, repertoire, interpretation, history and performance practice as it relates to the various style periods. The course is designed to take the student to the next level of both technique and musicianship. Topics include reading in the higher positions, contrapuntal music, harmonics (natural and artificial), ornamentation and improvisation. The student will study Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern pieces in all positions. Further topics include accompanying techniques, reading from figured bass and other continuo skills. Alternate tunings including various open tunings will be discussed. This course includes solo and small ensemble repertoire as well as repertoire for large ensembles of multiple guitars.
