This course examines the origins, major themes, and principle developments of world civilizations since the 16th century. Special emphasis is given to interactions among various civilizations in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas and their mutual interdependence in the shaping of the modern world. Particular attention will be paid to the analysis of themes like imperialism, colonialism, industrialization, trade, modernization, urbanization and the rise of the nation-state. C-ID: HIST 160
