Catalog description

This course is an interdisciplinary course that introduces gendered identities as a category of cultural analysis. This course will offer a survey of theoretical concepts of gender and its intersection with various categories of difference, including sexuality, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, age and ability. The main focus of the course will examine gender within the context of the United States. Students will study the social construction of gender with particular emphasis on social and political activism and resistance and the ways in which social movements have led to societal transformations in both history and contemporary society.
