Introduction to Art Theory

Catalog description

This course explores the fundamental elements and principles of art. It introduces the terms, theoretical methodologies and evaluative strategies used in the evaluation of art, various artistic media and artistic devices. The course addresses problems of organization and structure in a work of art as well as the relationship between a work of art and the social and intellectual context from which it emerges. Visits to off-campus galleries/museums may be required.
