Catalog description

This foundation course analyzes theories of human behavior in the social environment from a life span developmental approach and integrates and consolidates theories from prerequisite social, behavioral, and biological science courses from a human growth and developmental perspective. The content of this course is designed to increase students' potential for effective generalist social work assessment and intervention with individuals, families, and groups. Themes include assessing and understanding human diversity in varying contexts, social justice, oppression, cultural heritage, and concerns for specific vulnerable populations, with emphasis upon small and medium-sized systems. Prerequisite: admission to MSW program. Co-requisite: SOWK 515.
