Catalog description

This foundation course focuses on issues of diversity, oppression, privilege, and social justice, using environmental justice as our case to practice applying a critical understanding of people in their environments. The focus of this course is to understand the imprint of discrimination, prejudice, oppression, and privilege from a personal, cultural, and structural lens, understanding intersecting axes of privilege and oppression. This course is designed to prepare social work students to be knowledgeable about having an anti-oppressive stance within the practice. In doing this students will be challenged to examine their personal biases. In addition, students will learn how to display cultural humility by becoming culturally aware.
