Catalog description

This 3.0 credit hour course is designed to advance candidates' understanding of assessment theory and performance using large and small-scale data to advance student in secondary setting. Areas of learner measurement and evaluation will include intelligence, academic achievement, learning target mastery, content-based diagnostic procedures and adaptive behaviors and factors that put learners at-risk developmentally, educationally, and socially. Candidates will be provided with models and experiences related to creating informal, formal, formative, summative, criterion, norm, and curriculum based assessments. The linking of assessment, data collection, and intervention to promote optimal outcomes for students will be emphasized. Candidates will use their clinical (school-based) placements to learn to administer, evaluate, and interpret various diagnostic tests, rating scales, and classroom-based assessments to determine appropriate instructional strategies and differentiated instructional practices in light of ethical and legal requirements. Candidates will learn how to share assessment results with students, faculty teams, and families. An inquiry project will be used to assess candidates' knowledge and skills in this area. Assistive technology applications are also explored to support assessment and instruction of all learners.
