Complex Medical Rehabilitation

Catalog description

This course provides an integrated study of complex medical conditions and their impact on physical therapy practice. Students explore the integumentary, cardiovascular, pulmonary, lymphatic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and endocrine systems as they relate to patient care. Emphasis is placed on understanding pathologies, healing processes, and evidence-based rehabilitation interventions for conditions such as burns, wounds, skin disorders, vascular and circulatory dysfunction, lymphedema, amputations, and prosthetic management, as well as cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders. Topics include wellness and prevention strategies, pulmonary hygiene, and acute care considerations. Instruction is delivered through lecture and laboratory experiences, enabling students to develop the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to manage patients with complex medical and rehabilitation needs.
