Catalog description

Introductory course concentrating on three primary areas: (1) observational techniques, (2) solar system astronomy, (3) stellar and galactic astronomy. During each portion of the course there is a laboratory emphasis on observation and hands-on learning. Some observation is scheduled every clear night that the course meets, using the University's Noblitt Observatory in Lilly Science Hall, which is accessible via stairs only. Most years, the class takes an additional field trip to a local institutional observatory (e.g., the Link Observatory) or uses the University's portable telescope. (Cross-listed as ESCI-207.)
