Catalog description

Students will complete 3 full-time weeks of fieldwork with an occupational therapist to progress the student to a higher level of learning and integration of knowledge about the field of occupational therapy. The students are expected to recognize, understand, integrate, synthesize, and apply the knowledge learned from previous, current and future academic coursework. In addition, building upon the practice skills acquired in Level I A and B Fieldwork, students will continue to refine those skills and now actively apply the skills of intervention and outcome measurement in Level IC Fieldwork. This fieldwork experience also requires the student to describe how psychological and social factors influence occupational engagement. It is hoped that being scheduled at one fieldwork site for three weeks will facilitate the student's ability to participate in the entire OT process at a particular practice setting and better prepare the student for Level II Fieldwork. This length of time also offers more opportunity for the fieldwork educator to serve as a role model and to effectively evaluate student performance in preparation for Level II Fieldwork performance. Prerequisite: Must be accepted into the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program & Permission. Co-requisites: None.
