Catalog description

This is the second practicum course for Neonatal Nurse Practitioner track. This practicum focuses on developing and mastering neonatal assessment skills, obtaining and evaluating maternal and perinatal history, delivery room management, differential diagnosis, and clinical competency in the advance practice role under the supervision of a preceptor. Communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research/evidence-based practice utilization during the practicum are emphasized. Students are provided with opportunities to perform neonatal therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in the clinical setting within scope of practice. The emphasis is placed on the role of advanced clinical practice in management of critically ill neonates, culturally diverse families, and interprofessional practice in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
