Catalog description

This course introduces music therapy majors to the clinical processes and documentation essential to therapeutic practice. Students will learn the steps of the music therapy process, including referral, assessment, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, and termination. Emphasis will be placed on mastering corresponding paperwork and documentation—such as assessments, treatment plans, session plans, progress notes, and termination reports—based on an assigned case study, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to a real-world scenario. In addition to classroom instruction, students will participate in an observational practicum, where they will observe practicing music therapists in the field across various settings. This combination of theoretical learning and hands-on observation will prepare students for future clinical work.
