Catalog description

This course advances occupational therapy practice in addressing factors influencing mental health and well-being across diagnoses and practice settings. Students will critically analyze theoretical frameworks while exploring pathophysiology, pharmacological considerations, assessment, intervention, and discharge planning processes for clients experiencing diverse mental health challenges. The course emphasizes clinical reasoning in screening and evaluation, designing client-centered, evidence-based interventions, and facilitating discharge planning e0orts as a part of the interprofessional team. Students will evaluate current research, develop culturally responsive interventions, and analyze systemic barriers to care. This course prepares students to support functional independence and quality of life across various practice environments by examining individual, group, and population-level approaches. Emphasis is placed on developing skills to address the complex intersection of mental and physical health in contemporary healthcare settings.
