Catalog description

This course provides an orientation to the counseling profession including history, roles, organizational structures, ethics, standards, and credentialing. Information related to professional preparation standards, certification, licensure, and accrediting bodies will be incorporated within the context of what it means to become a professional counselor. The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and laws that are applicable to counselors will be studied in detail. Understanding of ethical practice will be enhanced by application to ethical dilemmas that could occur in the field of counseling.
