Examines the origins of terrorism and how the motives and methods of modern terrorists reflect both continuities and differences with those of the past. Topics include the psychological, socioeconomic, political, and religious causes of terrorist violence, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of various counterterrorism strategies. This course is not open to freshmen.
