Catalog description

This course provides an advanced introduction to the practices and interventions used by community psychologists to facilitate social change. In this course on community psychology, students will learn to move beyond traditional expert-client and one-to-one roles and instead work as partners and collaborators within communities. The course emphasizes practical approaches to empower communities and foster social change. It also mphasizes using theories from community psychology to guide interventions at both individual and systemic levels. Students will look at how to influence public policy, build capacity, advocate for communities, and understand the dynamics of power in their work. The aim is to equip students with the skills to design culturally sensitive and ethically sound interventions.
