Ethics and New Technologies

Section information text: We will study some possible future technologies that are ethically controversial. One aim is to determine what uses of these technologies, if any, are morally permissible, and what uses, if any, are morally required. We will only spend time considering arguments in favor of ethical evaluations: that is, reasoned appeals to evidence. The main value of the course is in skill development: if you are engaged, there will be significant improvement in your reading comprehension skills, your argument evaluation skills, and your writing and speaking skills.
