Section information text: This course explores metaphysical and ethical questions about the nature of time, the universe, free will and determinism, our responsibilities to other beings, and love through a series of science fiction films paired with primary philosophical texts. In connection to these fundamental philosophical questions, the course explores and interrogates inequality, as well as related concepts such as fairness, distributive and procedural justice, and equity. By treating science fiction not only as entertainment but also as a serious model of philosophical inquiry, the course encourages critical reflection about the ways that our imagined worlds illuminate, challenge, and influence our lived realities.
