Study of the characteristics of easy-to-read text and of on-screen editing techniques to simplify difficult-to-read text while preserving the author's voice. Students lean the art and rhetoric of sentences and paragraphs to develop their writing style and to improve, through substantive revision, the writing of others. Emphasis is on conciseness, clarity, sentence variety, paragraph mastery, and style with grace. An excellent course for students interested in a career in publishing or wishing to pursue an MFA in creative writing.
