Catalog description

This course prepares candidates to teach mathematics in grades K through 6. Emphasis is placed on creating classrooms that encourage exploration and communication of ideas relating to numbers patterns, shapes, and space. Special attention is given to methods that promote algebraic, geometric, and statistical reasoning, as well as computational thinking. Design-thinking, problem solving, critical thinking and cooperative learning structures are studied; how to use formal and informal assessment to support student learning. This course is required for elementary licensure.
