STEM DS: Lessons & Labs
University of Indianapolis · GRAD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This studio introduces STEM career changers to the essentials of lesson and lab design for secondary classrooms. Candidates plan and prototype lessons that integrate labs, technology, and hands-on activities while aligning with professional standards and diverse student needs. Strategies emphasize clear explanations, problem framing, data use, and active student engagement. From the start, candidates work alongside an experienced mentor teacher, co-planning lessons and receiving feedback on design choices. Candidates also learn ways to foster collaboration, give constructive feedback, and manage classroom challenges. By the end of the studio, participants produce a portfolio of STEM lessons and lab activities that demonstrate effective planning and readiness to teach.
